Jean-Gael read law at the University of Leicester. He worked for 3 years working in Cyprus in business and legal advisory before joining the Honourable Society of Lincoln’s Inn and completing his Bar at Nottingham Law School. He was called to the Bar of England and Wales in 2006 and joined Basset Chambers in 2008 after being called to the Bar of Mauritius. Jean-Gael was Chairperson of the Independent Broadcasting Authority Review Panel between 2022 and 2024.

Jean Gael is a litigator handling employment, commercial, property and civil matters before all the courts and tribunals of Mauritius. He is regularly called upon to chair disciplinary hearings. He also has an established advisory practice, notably with regulatory bodies and leading actors in the retail and tourism industries.
